If you’re thinking of traipsing around the streets of Chicago this week, here are a few hip happenings you can find yourself stumbling into!
Monday, May 10th @ 8:00PM
Tonic Room, 2447 N. Halsted Ave., Chicago
Today, Fast Geek Press is hosting a book release party for Further Down Rd. by Chicago poet John Franklin Dandridge. We were honored to have John as one of our features in December, 2009. We think he’s a pretty cool poet and you will, too! Guest readers include Charley “the city mouse” Fasano.
Friday, May 14 from 6-10PM
Halsted St, between 18th & Cermak
Every month, year-round, the Chicago District hosts its 2nd Fridays where gallery-goers can peruse the works of Chicago’s great artists. One of the great things about this art-walk is that you can go back every month to enjoy the art of particular artist, or be welcomed by the freshness of new emerging artists. Did we mention there’s wine?! Many of the galleries are very hospitable in offering wine, cheese, and sometimes brownies as you view the art. Galleries you will definitely want to check out include: South Halsted Gallery (1825 S. Halsted), Logsdon 1909 Gallery (1909 S. Halsted), & Xavier Nuez Gallery (1932 S. Halsted #402)
Saturday, May 15 10PM-4AM
Jerry’s, 1938 W. Division St. (Damen & Division), Chicago
For all you Hip Hop, Techno, Pop music-loving freaks, you’ll definitely want to check out this monthly event:
B.Y.O.Beats: Chicago’s most authentic hip-hop party, featuring the best beats from hip-hop’s past, present, and future (think Tribe, Beatnuts, Kanye, Outkast, Dr. Dre, etc.) and plenty of select cuts from the musical genres that provided the inspiration for the creation of hip-hop including soul, dancehall, funk, and more.
Each installment of this monthly dance party will include freestyles provided by the best emcees that Chicago has to offer. B.Y.O.Beats is the official resurrection of the ol’ school hip-hop party in Chicago. Hosted by MC Ssssnake and the BYOBeats djs.
